EASTGATE INLAND CONTAINER TERMINAL LIMITED pioneered the construction of the first inland dry dock facility in the eastern part of Nigeria, with a commitment to offer world-class services in that region. EASTGATE INLAND CONTAINER TERMINAL LIMITED is an indigenous port operations and management company, incorporated under the Federal Republic of Nigeria Companies and Allied Matters Act 1990, This was in response to a major gap in the Nigerian business and economic environment, where gross inefficiencies in port management and infrastructural inadequacies contributed to declining productivity and has impacted adversely on the real sectors of the maritime. Eastgate expressed its interest formally, submitted its bid and was selected as the preferred bidder to manage and operate the ICD to be sited at Ntigha, Isiala-Ngwa LGA of South East, Nigeria. The arrangement is under Build-Own-Operate-and-Transfer(BOOT) as provided in the master plan and approved by the Nigerian Shippers Council.
In the face of these realities, the clamor for private sector involvement in the development of port infrastructure became persistent. Also, it was realized that building linkages that drive economic development is impossible without the appropriate infrastructure, A key component of this is better ports, which are gateways to international trade. While dry ports(i.e. inland container terminals) generally lead to improved transportation network consistent with the reforms policy of the Federal Government of Nigeria therefore, inland container depots(ICDs) were approved for five states namely: (i) Abia, (ii) Oyo, (iii) Bauchi (iv) Kano, (v) Borno.
Through Public-Private Partnership Participation, the inland ports are to bring port management facilities and services closer to the various business interest groups that the seaport services, especially those in the hinterland.
We can also take care of customs clearance and arrange transport insurance.
The basic concept of the Nigerian ICD projects is build, operate, own and transfer (BOOT). There is only one operator in each of the six geopolitical zones of Nigeria .This notwithstanding, Eastgate recognizes that the seaports are still in operation and offer alternatives to importers and exporters, and thus compel a well thought out business model that will ensure success.
The business model of Eastgate is to impact the logistics chain in international trade, right from initiation of transaction up to delivery of the cargo to the doorstep of the importer. Beyond terminal operations, Eastgate offers advisory services on shipping, clearing and other related end-to-end logistic needs as well as provide haulage services that ensure safe and timely delivery of cargo to the doorstep of their owners.
The other important aspect of international trade that Eastgate drives aggressively is non-oil exports. Eastgate has replaced the present cumbersome practice with a well-structured and organized port handling at its terminal in Isiala-Ngwa, providing a bay for sorting and loading. This has minimized delays in exporting cargo and eliminated completely wrong routing, and eventual loss of investment by the exporter.
EASTGATE INLAND CONTAINER TERMINAL LIMITED has health, safety, environment and security(HSES)plan and program that all personnel must strictly adhere to. The policy would be audited on regular basis. Security will be provided 24/7 throughout the entire facility, with security posts at all strategic positions and regular patrols
The haulage of customer cargoes will also be secured and monitored through the GPRS technology installed in all trucks. All safety measures must be observed and complied with by staff, contractors, and visitors, with conspicuous visual display of the policy at all strategic locations throughout the facility. The HSES policy is summarized as "work safely, otherwise, don't"
